Alistair Cooper
Founder of Screenodon
I’ve spent over ten years shipping iOS apps, from a blank Xcode project to the App Store, on my own and on large teams. At Fender I was a technical lead on Fender Play and worked on apps used by millions of people.
I also run the whole loop on my own apps: the store listing, the keywords, the screenshots, the search ads. Screenodon is the tool I wanted for the screenshot part of that, so I built it.
Before software I spent a decade writing orchestral music for film, TV and games. It is where I learned that the first few seconds decide whether anyone keeps listening, which is most of what a store page is about too.
How these guides are written
- Sizes, limits and review rules come from Apple’s and Google’s own documentation, linked on each page. Spec pages show the date every number was last checked.
- Statistics come only from published research, with the source named.
- Example screenshot sets are fictional apps, built in Screenodon. I don’t reproduce other apps’ listings.
- Where Screenodon is the tool I use for a step, the guide says so. The advice works with any tool.
